- Explosion-proof or ATEX motor and controls for dusty or solvent-laden duty

- Sizing the motor on volume alone and ignoring viscosity at the coldest expected temperature
- Asking for a single fixed speed when the process actually needs a VFD turndown range
- Leaving shear sensitivity unstated, so a supplier proposes a high-shear head that damages the product
- Overlooking vessel headroom and floor-to-ceiling clearance needed to pull the drive for service
- Treating dry-blend uniformity as a given without naming a CV% target or a sampling method
